Welcome to LET’S GO FISHING!

Lake Champlain International and the Vermont Department of Fish & Wildlife have partnered to bring you the state’s premiere fishing and water resources education program – Let’s Go Fishing!

The Let’s Go Fishing (LGF) Program is an organized effort to train a network of volunteers to teach and encourage young people and their families how to fish and to learn about the importance of fishing and clean water. LGF believes that fishing is about more than just catching fish; it’s a lifetime hobby to be shared.

LGF emphasizes four themes:
  • Hands-on experience fishing
  • Aquatic ecology, management
  • Importance of habitat conservation
  • Ethics

VOLUNTEERS ARE NEEDED!
There are two types of volunteers. The first type of volunteer is a Certified Instructor. Certified Instructors complete a one-day weekend training workshop where they learn the basics of holding their own LGF clinic. Most of the Certified Instructors are affiliated with a club or group that will host the clinic. The next type of volunteer helps instructors with the clinics. These volunteers can assist in teaching sections of the clinic, or they can help by keeping things organized.

Let’s Go Fishing would like to hear from teachers who want to incorporate the program into their classrooms. LGF has been used in math, physical education, science, and reading classes.

2015 INSTRUCTOR WORKSHOPS ARE SCHEDULED!

Two great instructor workshops are scheduled for 2015!  Come join the ranks of our enthusiastic Let's Go Fishing-certified volunteer instructors!  You will learn how to educate kids and their families about the importance of fishing and clean water, and then bring that knowledge and fun activities back to your community or school.  Choose from two dates and locations:  Saturday, March 28, 2015, at the Kehoe Conservation Camp on Lake Bomoseen in Castleton; or Saturday, April 11, 2015, at the Fish & Wildlife Department's district office in Essex Junction.  Instructor workshops are FREE and run from 9:00 a.m. until 4:00 p.m.  You must be 18 years old to become an instructor.  Click on the link above to register. Space is always limited at these popular trainings so register early!

If you were previously certified as a LGF instructor, but have not conducted a clinic in the last two years, attend a workshop to be re-activated and re-energized.  We have new educational materials to show you!

If you would like to be informed of LGF clinics in your area, have questions about LGF, or about the LGF instructor workshops, email us at letsgofishing@mychamplain.net or call Cathy at 802-879-3466.
